Everything about movies
Bumubula–bula. Umaaalon alon. Kumukokak kokak. Sino sya?
That is Pura Buraot from the MOVIE the Adventures of Pureza: Queen Of the Riles. She plays the comedic role of a bubbly, caring, kind-hearted, very hardworking “dakilang ate” who wants nothing but only the best for her one and only beloved brother, Ulam (Martin Del rosario) who is very hot in one of the scenes, and uplift their dismal life.
Directed by one Soxy Topacio, The Adventures of Pureza: Queen of the Riles must be one of the funniest local movie today. The fact that Melai is not aware that she is funny, unconscious of how she made other people laugh, is a comedy itself. Melai’s role here looks like Ina of Tanging Ina movies where she will do everything to raise her family. In all her endeavors, Pura’s best friend, Ruben (Jason Francisco), has always been by her side. Pura and Ruben then stumbles into a one-time big time opportunity to usher a Brazilian model (Bianca Manalo) who manages to escape them. With this unfortunate turn of event, Pura steps into the role literally. She is now the model Pureza Mayriles! Basking in the promise of a better fortune plus a serendipitous love, little did Pura know that she has dragged herself into a life-threatening mess.
I would have to admit that there are some scenes that Im waiting for a punch line. Especially if Melai is not present in the scenario. But Gina Pareno, in her most colorful role as a mother of an alleged syndicate is a big plus. She is literally the “Angry bird” one can play in their cellphones with her unique choices of color including that of the feathers of the bird. Jason on the other hand reprises his role as a sweet guy. Always trying to understand his friend Pura. He is amiably cute in this movie. His real life character is quite similar to his role as a silent machismo type individual.
The movie is produced by Star Cinema and Cine Screen which Ive heard was handled by Enrico Santos during the invitational celebrity screening held last Tuesday at The Podium.
The first time I heard of the Melason Project early this year was like, Wow Im excited to see them on big screen. And it happened. From PBB Primetime to Melason In love, I guess i have been a big fan of Melai and Jason. Their tandem i might say is one of the geniune, if not surreal reflection of ordinary people in showbiz today. This movie has proven that a very masa and witty can prove that she can make the audience laugh in as simple as she is. Exactly the way she is!
Im not sure If i have seen any works from Topacio in the past but I dont know what is lacking in his direction. I think he was persuaded by the fact that Melai is obviously funny that he didnt make the best out of her. I have been a fan of Local movies especially that of Star Cinema since Home Along Da Riles. This is not the typical Star Cinema comedy I would say. The movie is very funny. But I can still distinguish previous comedy projects made by Star. The dubbing is good however I find Bentong and the taller guy’s different voice not necessary, but still funny. Technically, cinematography has been StarCinema’s masterpiece. The official trailer might not as big as previous movies, but it was undeniably funny. I think I want to see more of Topacio’s project in the near future with Star Cinema to decide and tell the difference.
The plot is a typical story but the challenges of Pura in achieving the dreams of her brother Ulam, including those of her experiences are worth watching. I think the funniest was when she pretends to be a model. Everything, including Ruben (Jason) trying to cover her up is funny. I love the scene when Pura was lying on the bed of the hotel and Jason was just looking at her, reminiscing their childhood. That is one sweet scene. There’s a point where they almost kissed lying on the bed but yeah I was like, “Nabitin.” But they have something at the end of the movie that moviegoers should watch. Pokwang also made a very interesting participation in the movie as well. All in all, I felt more kilig and laughing at the same time. Its a funny movie, a stress reliever one would like to check. MELAI is undisputedly the Queen of Masa, Queen of the Riles.
I recommend this movie should be given a chance. Its a riot movie! And check out the bloopers too! You dont wanna miss how Melai and Jason screwed in their dialogues. Very funny!
Sobrang Nakakatawa si Melai!

The trailer is inviting, I would have to say..
The tandem of Robert Downey Jr, who reprises his role as the world’s most famous detective and Jude Law returns as his formidable colleague, Dr. Watson, in Sherlock Holmes. Movie will be released on December 16, 2011 directed by Guy Ritchie.
STORY: A Game of Shadows.
Sherlock Holmes has always been the smartest man in the room until now. There is a new criminal mastermind at large–Professor Moriarty (Jared Harris)–and not only is he Holmes’ intellectual equal, but his capacity for evil, coupled with a complete lack of conscience, may actually give him an advantage over the renowned detective. When the Crown Prince of Austria is found dead, the evidence, as construed by Inspector Lestrade (Eddie Marsan), points to suicide. But Sherlock Holmes deduces that the prince has been the victim of murder–a murder that is only one piece of a larger and much more portentous puzzle, designed by one Professor Moriarty. Mixing business with pleasure, Holmes tracks the clues to an underground gentlemen’s club, where he and his brother, Mycroft Holmes (Stephen Fry) are toasting Dr. Watson on his last night of bachelorhood. It is there that Holmes encounters Sim (Noomi Rapace), a Gypsy fortune teller, who sees more than she is telling and whose unwitting involvement in the prince’s murder makes her the killer’s next target.
Holmes barely manages to save her life and, in return, she reluctantly agrees to help him. The investigation becomes ever more dangerous as it leads Holmes, Watson and Sim across the continent, from England to France to Germany and finally to Switzerland. But the cunning Moriarty is always one step ahead as he spins a web of death and destruction–all part of a greater plan that, if he succeeds, will change the course of history.

What do you think?
Last weekend we were watching Fantastic 4 again and found Chris Evans is interesting. Then I realized early this year Ive been twitting about Captain America movie and what a coincidence. Here it is, The Movie is almost done and it about to be released by Marvel on last week of July!
I’m not a Marvel avid, I think so. Though most of the releases are good one, I would say that the trailer below is persuading. It looks like a lot of fun. Fast-paced, wisecracking, explosions – what’s not to love?
This new trailer is longer and seems to get into the real meat and bones of the story. Hell, I’ll admit it, I will watch this.

I havent seen the hard copy but I think its over age: Latest Newsweek cover contains a ghostly sight: a computer-generated image of a stylish Princess Diana, as she might look now, walking with Kate Middleton.
The article inside was written by Diana biographer and longtime provocateur Tina Brown. She’s also Newsweek’s editor-in-chief, having taken over after her online publication, the Daily Beast, merged late last year with the decades-old publication. The magazine’s new issue also features an imagined Diana Facebook page and a slideshow comparing the fashion styles of Diana and Middleton, who married Diana’s oldest child, Prince William, in April.
About the cover, a Los Angeles Times headline asked, “Shocking, brilliant or just plain cheap?” An Atlantic Wire headline added, “How Creepy Is Princess Diana’s Ghost on the Cover of Newsweek?”
what do you think of the photo?
I cant wait, honestly. With the story continues to track Harry, Ron and Hermione on their dangerous mission to locate and destroy the secret to Lord Voldemort’s immortality and destruction – the Horcruxes.
The star cast remains the same with Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson portraying Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger respectively.
Im not really a big fan of 3D in SM MOA. Yet the makers have left no stone unturned as Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 will be released in 3D, along with the 2D formats, in IMAX. However, cinema lovers are anxious to know that whether the movie will stand up to their expectations? Our expert Vedic astrologers have analyzed the Natal chart to reveal the secret even before the release of the movie.
Are you ready to laugh harder? Well, here’s a dose of fun that will surely give you a hard time remembering your problems. Star Cinema’s newest offering together with Sine Screen, the Movie that stars PBB BIG Winner Melai Cantiveros and her reel and real life love team, Jason Francisco, or even more popularly known as Melason, “The Adventures of Pureza: Queen of the Riles”!
This will be their first big movie break. Melai and Jason takes the limelight this time as major lead stars. I am actually excited to see the movie. With Melai and Jason’s witty real life character, I would say I’m really looking forward to see them act in the big screen. In fact, the Prinsesa ng Masa, Melai, gets the title role no less in what could be the birth of another ace comedienne. And the whole country couldn’t be any happier. Myself included!
The story revolves with Pura, (Melai) who plays the comedic role of a bubbly, caring, kind-hearted, very hardworking “dakilang ate” who wants nothing but only the best for her one and only beloved brother, Ulam, and uplift their dismal life. In all her endeavors, Pura’s best friend, Ruben (Jason Francisco), has always been by her side. Pura and Ruben then stumbles into a one-time big time opportunity to usher a Brazilian model who manages to escape them. With this unfortunate turn of event, Pura steps into the role … literally. She is now the model Pureza Mayriles! Basking in the promise of a better fortune plus a serendipitous love, little did Pura know that she has dragged herself into a life-threatening mess? Now running for their lives, Pura and Ruben has to detangle themselves from the dangers that faces them and how!

“Kaya mo bang mahalin ang isang taong alam mong mawawala rin sa’yo?” – KC Concepcion as Raffy Salvador.
“It took me a day to fall in love… and it will take me forever to say goodbye” – Sam Milby as Eugene Servero.
I’ve been hearing this line since last week and I actually have my answers ready. Initially one would say “YES, I can”. But after watching the movie, I had a different perspective on how I look at it.
Directed by one of the box office directors in our country Cathy Garcia Molina, the story of Forever and a Day is not just about pairing a love team, tackling a love story nor finding the kilig among the leads. This is one of the Star Cinema’s most realistic stories ever made since Tanging yaman in 2000. A star studded Premiere night last Tuesday at Megamall cinema 10 made an impression that fans are really anticipating the first team up of Sam Milby and KC Concepcion. The story is about a man who pushes himself to the limits, a man who is always up for the challenge. He is proud. He only lives from himself. He then meets a woman one day, a woman who is more cautious in life, a woman who teaches him to embrace and appreciate life, love and all its smallest blessings.
I have seen KC concepcion’s movie “For the First Time, Til I met you and I’ll be there. And I must say that KC is a revelation in this movie. She made me feel like I’m looking at Raffy Salvador (her character in the movie) and not the KC concepcion. A woman who struggle for life and accepting her fate. I guess I have proven what Direk Cathy is saying during the presscon, “The KC we never knew.” Her acting is so real but not too pushy. The movie started with the introduction of Sam’s character. An Established guy who has a very rewarding career (Athletic shoe designer ) and family. Some work related conflicts brought him to take some time off and get to enjoy his time with his friends. Matet De Leon I must say played a very important supporting role in this movie. Without her, I think it would be harder to reconnect serious real life situation to chill and fun. Robi da Rosa’s character was not elaborated in the film as older brother of Sam (Eugene) but made an impression that favoritism in some of the families exists.
Sam’s acting in this movie is also impressive. Aside from his almost fluent tagalog (which I think he is the fastest learner among those who’s willing), he surprised the audience that he was more than the smiling guy. The way he threw a dramatic line is just fine.
The movie also shown how great our country is in terms of tourist destinations. We know Boracay, Palawan and Davao. But Bukidnon and Cagayan De Oro are worth visiting! I fell in love with Tinago falls in Iligan City. A very heartwarming view of smokey and verdant falls is so refreshing and breathtaking that I would want to visit Bukidnon anytime soon. I’ve also learned that the longest Zip line in Asia is in Bukidnon. If I’m not mistaken the movie mentioned about 840 meters!
There may not be kilig scenes at all times but it was forgivable since the plot explains why. The story was narrated in a gracious way and at some point you would feel your dry throat since some of the lines are real life situation. Truth is, I realized a lot in this movie, or should I say I was again reminded of precious things in life that need not to be wasted. I can say that the story is predictable but it doesn’t discredit the movie of how it was being told.
Technically, cinematography has been StarCinema’s masterpiece. It also has a timely musical scoring especially at the latter part of the movie.
Again with the question of Raffy, “Kaya mo bang mahalin ang isang taong alam mong mawawala rin sa’yo?” I am impressed with how Eugene answered it.
“Hindi.. Dahil hindi ko sya hahayaang mawala sa akin..”
Forever and A Day opens Yesterday, June 15 in more 100 theaters nationwide. 4 out of 5 STARS. And on Saturday, June 25 Premiere with Sam Milby 12:00pm at Tribeca Performing Arts, New York!
On its 18th Anniversary, Star Cinema proudly brings another Cathy Garcia Molina film. A story of a compelling love story, a celebration of beauty of love and life > FOREVER AND A DAY. Starring two of the country’s most sought leading role in the big screen, Sam Milby and KC Concepcion.
FOREVER AND A DAY is an endearing love story, shot in the country’s most scenic locales Bukidnon and Cagayan de Oro. It was needed for sam’s character to show how much he pushes himself to the limits and KC’s character who is willing to take the risk just to conquer her fears. I am a big fan of Cathy Garcia Molina films and Im sure she pulled the best of Sam and Kc in this movie.
The story is about a man who pushes himself to the limits, a man who is always up for the challenge. He is proud. He only lives for himself. He then meets a woman one day, a woman who is more cautious in life, a woman who teaches him to embrace and appreciate life, love and its smallest blessings. Together they take the journey that teaches them to conquer their fears and the humility and courage to accept the things that one cannot control. But will love prevail even if destiny tries to prevent it from happening?
Some of the memorable lines in the movie are as follows:
“It took me a day to fall in love… and it will take me forever to say goodbye”
– Eugene Servero (Sam Milby)
“Kaya mo bang mahalin ang isang taong alam mong mawawala rin sa’yo?”
– Raffy Salvador (KC Concepcion)
Direk Cathy shares to us during the presscon “Star Cinema never banks on the relationship. Alam mo ‘yung hindi naman tayo yung tipo na nagki-create na kunwari nagkagustuhan ang mga artista para lang kumita ang pelikula. You know, John Lloyd and Toni, pinatunayan yan. Even John Lloyd and Bea.”
While filming the movie, KC and Sam had to do extreme sports themselves. This includes zip lining and whitewater rafting (I LOVE!). Both have gone out of their comfort zones, all for delineating what could be the career-defining roles of their lives. I am expecting that the movie will have something that will suprise the audience in the end, a big twist. As they always emphasizes, this is the story of love and life.
“Forever and a Day” opens in over 100 theaters June 15th 2011. Celebrity Premiere night will be at SM Megamall Cinema 10 on tuesday June 14, 2011.
